In Episode 1 of Regulatory Oversight, Troutman Pepper Partner Ashley Taylor sits down with National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) President and Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller to discuss NAAG’s goals and his priorities as NAAG president.
A bipartisan organization, NAAG provides a community for attorneys general and their staff to collaborate and address issues important to their work, as well as training and resources to support attorneys general and protecting the rule of law in the United States. Over the years, attorneys general have worked together on many settlements related bank mortgages, opioids, antitrust, and tobacco.
As NAAG president, Attorney General Miller’s key area of focus is consumer protection, which includes the use of social media to educate consumers on preventing consumer fraud, how to utilize technology as a tool to prevent telemarketing fraud, issues related to the use of algorithms and dark patterns, and others.
This episode also discusses the modern attorney general’s role in our national regulatory landscape and how past settlements have played a large part in the evolution of the modern attorney general.
